OC Unit
-1994: Mr Lee Ah Ngee
1995-1996: Mrs Maria Poi
1996-1997: Mdm Norliza
1997-1998: Mrs Joy Moreira
1998: Mrs Angelina
1999-? : Mr Daniel Yong: A bit about myself: actually i am in NPCC since May 1998 when i was first posted to HSC. In Nov 1998, i went for the Officers' Course and became the OC Unit of HSC in Jan 1999, as ex-OC Mrs Angelina was posted to another school. It was much a trying period and it was basically a 'look-see-look-see' approach. I knew nothing of NPCC then, as i prefer distance-running sports or even NCC since I had served the army as an instructor. However I got a great bunch of CIs to help me, as well as Mr Tan Hee Lam and later on Mdm Tay Pei Inn. The CIs, Jason, Yvonne and Henjun (I termed them '3 musketeers) were absolutely fabulous, and they taught me various things. They were strict. New implementations were included and the CIs were very supportive and responded well. They were terrific leaders in my opinion. When i forgot things initially, they would always be by my side. Miss those 'chicken rice meals' I had with them after every training. That was also one of the best periods of my NPCC days with CIs, when apparently i do not feel any 'generation gap' with them, as i guess i am not much older than them - the three musketeers and later HaoKiang, followed by Yuanqian and then Zhongyi. More implementations were included and changes made when teachers are disrupted from NPCC duties over the years (Mr Tan Hee Lam and Mdm Tay Pei Inn), so that i can cope with the heavy NPCC load. Along the way, conflicts and disagreements arose when these changes clashed with 'npcc traditions' that were set decades ago. Soon though, the NCOs and CIs see the reasons for changes in this modern era. Finally in 2002, two new officers are included to help in the unit. The first break-through was the silver achieved in UOPA for the year 2000, and subsequently another silver 2001. More silverware came through drill competition, bowling, cooking competition, Games Day, etc.....but the irony is that we achieved all these when we only had about 10 NCOs (the smallest batch ever in the unit). In addition, from 2001, we had 7 new CIs in the duty roll, with Weiguang on the helm and a new HO Huilan, as their 'foster sister' (:P). I really hope that everyone will work cooperatively and not doubt any decisions made, as i think my life now revolves just about NPCC and my teaching. Now the only goal left is the elusive gold.....
After so many years (4 years is quite long) in NPCC, i feel that the energy is not drained totally YET. I tend to be very glad and happy to see the cadets as many of them are so supportive of this unit. I have to say that the batches of NPCC are getting better and this unit HAS the potential, many of the cadets as well. The potential 'NS officers' (guys) and 'leaders' (girls) are spotted when they first enter HSCNPCC, so that they will be groomed and blossom in this unit and for the nation. It is because of this reason that some cadets are selected for certain courses or events while some are not, which will then incur the wrath of many. If I have the capacity i will send everyone for all the courses. Sometimes I do lose my cool, as I feel that many cadets are not putting in enough effort and determination to do THEIR BEST in NPCC. I think that cadets should put in 100% effort, since so many of us teachers and CIs are giving our 110%. Still there needs to be a balance between NPCC and studies, and the values of NPCC must spill over into your classroom behaviour and beyond. The value i treasure most is definately being 'humble', followed by 'respect' (not exactly NPCC values but then again these are the core values everywhere!)
Thanks to all teachers and CIs, past and present, for making life so enjoyable and interesting with all of you around. Thanks to all cadets and NCOs, past and present, for making me LOVE to do what I am doing now. Sincerely Daday.
Thanks, especially to CI Ernest, for I know you are always just a phone-call away too.
(updated Dec 2002): After 4 years, and getting Silvers in 2000 and 2001, I am very proud of the unit getting the UOPA Gold. It is certainly what we aim to achieve way back 4 years ago and we got it 2 years earlier. We certainly hope to maintain this standard despite our constraints. Because of the gold award, which was what i really wanted, our unit had a BBQ bash in Dec in which we invited all our past NCOs and CIs back. On that day, the past and the present met each other, giving faces to names such as Jason, Yvonne etc which many of the present cadets heard of but have not seen them. I really think that the CIs contribution in this unit is tremendous, together with the 'flower' (our HO Huilan). Their combination is potent. Their effort is tremendous. We work like a big happy family and that is HSCNPCC strength I think - one of mutual trust, cooperation and respect. I really hope the spirit lives on with the next few batches of CIs.
Teachers / Officers:
1998 - 1999: Mr Tan Hee Lam: A great personal friend and advisor. Took charge of discipline in NPCC. However, due to his workload he was relieved of duties in 2000. It was a beautiful combination in 1999 when there were the three teachers in NPCC, as each has their own capabilities. That provided the foundation of the current NPCC. He left the school in Dec. 2002 for Bedok Green Sec.
1999: Mdm Lydiana was posted to NPCC to help out when she was in HSC. A dynamic teacher and disciplined one, she tracked her students daily and made sure they came for all activiites. Because she was so good, she was relieved of her NP duties and was not send for training, but instead made the Libraray head.
1999-2000: Mdm Tay Pei Inn: She is the 'Godmother' to all the 3 musketeers (senior CIs) with her docile mannerism and youthful smiles. Absolutely no temper, yet so well respected. She is currently furthering her studies in Australia. She was the former OC of Manjusri before posted to HSC. May be back at the end of 2003.
2001 - : Miss Seet Huilan (HO) is posted in to HSC. A former NPCC cadet, CI and now HO, she is one who has gone through a total 'NPCC baptism'. Knowlegdable, bubbly and friendly, she is well-loved by all the cadets and CIs alike (since all the CIs are male). The teachers (including those from other units) find her very helpful too. No wonder she has so many nicknames from then onwards. Smurfett! She even help Zainud (campsite) to prepare dishes and massage for him!
2001: Mrs Koh-Tan Siok Lian: A friend and colleague in the Geography Department: Great and enjoyable colleague and funny too.
2002: Mr Ng Tiak Kee, a former NPCC HQ staff officer and CCA branch officer, came into our unit. He has served NPCC since the 1980s, and is still very enthusiastic about it. As he is our DM, I hope that your attendance is good, so that i do not have to send you to him.
2002-: Miss Priscilla Goh and Miss Karen Ng went for the Officers course in Nov 2001. Stern but yet taking care, and disciplining their own level of charge. May look serious but they are as comical as your 'funnybone'. Now, the 'perfect' teacher combination is back! They will be the ones to push this unit towards greater height! Tap on their knowledge!
2003 (jan) - A new addition! Ex-best cadet and Logistic Head: HO Xu Yuwen (presently studying BEM in NUS is posted to our unit! She will take those CIs under her wing, as what Huilan has been doing these years. Great ideas and motivation and (whew) she will help me a lot in the admin work indeed!
2004 (Jan) - Our new addition: Mr Roy Chew: very strict, no-nonsense guy. Dont mess with him as he can really scold you if you get into his bad books.
